In Which Kat Visits the Health Food Store and Leaves Feeling Oddly Normal

I visited a local health food store today and had a conversation with the cashier that went like this:

Cashier, pointing to the keychain on my backpack: "I have to ask. Is that a Native American symbol."

Me: "Um, no...it's from Doctor Who."

Cashier, with a blank stare: "Is that a movie?"

Me: "It's a British sci-fi series."

Cashier, again pointing at my keychain: "And what is the significance?"

Me: "It's a key....to a time machine."

Awkward silence during which I feel as though I have a giant sign above my head with the work "FREAK" painted in bold letters and an arrow pointing down at me.

Cashier: "So, if you could go back in time anywhere, where would you go?"

Me, caught somewhat off-guard: "Actually, I really don't know."

Cashier: "I would go visit all my past lives."

Awkward silence in which the giant sign moves from above my head to above hers.

Lol. I just came home from Whole Foods a few minutes ago. Most of the folk are normal but there is always an unwashed/unshaven/makeup-less/long haired lady who looks unhappy with life wandering about somewhere amongst the aisles.

This was a smaller health food store, and the cashier was very sweet. It was just funny--the spacey way she said it and everything. I'd almost have thought she was pretending, but I don't think anyone can act that well :P. She also said something about the pyramids being built by aliens. I *think* she was making a joke that time, though...

LOL! That was way too funny. I love how my brand of weird isn't weird, but your brand of weird is freaky. Thanks for the laugh.

Well, we're all weird in our own ways, but I think some people's weird is weirder than other people's weird :).

Oh she probably wasn't joking about the pyramids. I've met people who believed that.

And, my grandfather believed we Humans are actually offspring of an alien race who were sent to Earth as a prison settlement....O_o yeah.

I wondered if she was kidding because she saw the look on my face when she made the past lives comment. She went on to say after that she knew not everyone believes that. So I thought maybe she was just playing it up. Or not :).

Humans as an offspring of aliens convicts, huh? Could explain some things ;).

That's a riot!!! Sometimes when I leave a health food store, I wonder if a "normal" person looks as weird to the employees as they do to me (a "normal" person). Then there are the other customers..makes me think I need to run out of there:)))

Love you,
Mom

Ashley, I wish my grandfather had read Life, The Universe and Everything. That's awesome! ;)

Hm...didn't catch that, Robynn. It's been so many years since I read the Hitchhikers series! :P

That is SO funny. I thought the freak sign was always over the cashier's head. Who doesn't know who Dr. Who is? Obviously not a PBS watcher.

Hah! Yeah. I guess Doctor Who is not big in the world of, um, well, whatever world she's a part of ;).

That's because Doctor Who is "Those Sci Fi Freaks". Past-life Regression, Ancient Alien Astronauts, Magick Crystals, and other things you find on Art Bell at 3 Ayem are what passes for NORMAL these days.
