Isn't it gorgeous???
The husband and wife team of Keven Newsome and DeAnna Newsome of Newsome Creative did the cover work. Keven will gladly admit that most of the work was done by De. She is amazing. She came up with the coolest solutions to some of the unique problems with executing such a design.
In other words, I came up with this crazy concept of an old leather journal that has a glowing butterfly sitting on it. Right, you say. That's perfectly normal. Trust me, it's very relevant to the story. But I wasn't sure we'd be able to DO it. But thanks to a team of creative nerds--DeAnna and Keven, of course, experienced input from Grace Bridges, and my own oddball thinking, we did it! We really did it!
And, yes, the book is still due out September 1st. And, yes, I'll have the prologue and first chapters posted soon.
*What other site? you ask. Here, go see for yourself.
And just because, here are two other book covers this awesome team of artists put together:
I Am Ocilla by Diane Graham
See why I asked them to do mine?
Finding Angel was mainly the master work of Grace and me: me doing the drawing and her doing the everything else. But Grace does SO much "everything else" I took this as a win-win--a little break for her and a chance to hog some Newsome talent for myself :).
Anyway, I am so happy with the final cover. My hands are itching to hold a copy, though! Soon....soon...

Oh, it was the other site! No wonder it ate my comment over there. I had to resort to commenting on Facebook. :-p
I'll say it again, I love the way it turned out! The leather journal and and the butterfly look awesome. Is there any reason you didn't make the cover a similar look to Finding Angel, to show they're part of a series?
Well, Kessie, there are similarities. One being the font of the text. Two being the keyhole-the main image on the Finding Angel cover, which is shrunk down on the lock of this one. Also, they both have insects on the front as major elements.
I do know what you mean, though. But I feel like they are similar enough, and I don't want them to be too much the same.
The spines on the print books also are numbered--the keyhole at the top is where you find that.
And thank you! :)
Very nice. Where did summer go? It's coming so soon!
Thanks, Caprice :).
And I know! This summer went waaaaaay too fast!
Looks awesome, Kat. I think I know what leather-bound journal you're talking about.
Thanks, Jeff, and I bet you are right :).
Better be careful, you'll give us a big head! Thanks for letting us tinker with this. And yes, De did the majority of it. She did layout, the butterfly, and all the effects. All I did was the bg texture and the straps. And don't forget YOUR part. It wouldn't look nearly as awesome without your unique artwork!
Thanks, Keven! :D
Love it, love it, love it!!! The cover is beautiful and the butterfly is awesome. And I love your new photo on the back - you're even more gorgeous than your book cover:). I'm your mom, so I'm prejudiced, but I hope that doesn't count!
Can't wait to see the actual book and to read it. You've kept the story as big a secret from me this time as you did Finding Angel - and that's good because it will be a surprise again.
Love you,
Mom
Glad you like it, Mom :0. And yeah, just a little biased... :P
Wonderful cover! Congrats on your new release!
Thanks so much, Cecelia!
Very pretty, Kat! Congrats. ;-)
Thank you, Jessica! :)
