A Magical Discussion at "deCompose"

I'm the guest blogger today over at Mike Duran's blog, deCompose. Please come visit me, and feel free to comment with your thoughts on "Magic in Christian Fiction."

What is the difference between the "evil" magic the Bible warns us against and fairy tale magic? Why did I choose to write a book with magic if I'm a Christian? I talk about those things and welcome your questions.

I enjoyed your article over on deCompose, and I'm now a subscriber to your blog. I like the way you talk about your writing, and you have some chops (been looking at your list of published stuff, you've worked hard!).

One question, do you have your art posted anywhere? I write and draw, too. :-) My art blog is netraptor.org/blog

Thanks so much, Kessie! :D Glad you enjoyed the post. And thanks, too, on the "chops" comment. That makes me feel rather good!

You can see some of my art in the photo albums on my Facebook page (the button is on the sidebar to the right). I don't have a lot of them up elsewhere. I have a Zazzle store (http://www.zazzle.com/kat713) where you can find stuff with my drawings of, um, odd beetles. No use trying to explain, ya just kinda gotta go look at 'em ;).

I checked out your blog--very cool! I like your drawings, and the postings about your techniques. I know this sounds like a total plug, but I think you'd like my book. The MC Angel is an artist, too, and my love of art is pretty well spattered all over the book. And the post on your blog about dinosaurs/dragons...well, I hit on that, too. You seem to like MG books, judging by your reviews I peeked at, so...

Anyway, I'm going to subscribe to your blog, too! I have to do it in a round-a-bout way, being as my acct is Blogger and yours is Wordpress, but there are ways :).

Thanks for commenting, and very cool to meet a fellow artist!

I've actually been stalking your book since I read about it over on deCompose. My hubby just got a Kindle, so I'm thinking I'll get the Kindle edition and try out this whole ebook thing.

Besides, I like the way you defend magic in fantasy. I'm just sticking a toe into the weird world of Christian fantasy, and people's resistance to, well, the fantastic things in fantasy, is mind boggling to me.

Never had someone say they're stalking my book...it's actually kinda cool :D.

You will love reading on a Kindle. I have a Nook and it is awesome! I still love paper books--believe me, my favorite-favorite books are paper. I want to be able to walk past certain ones and coo at them as they sit on my shelf. But the ebook thing is great. In some ways I like reading on my Nook better than reading paper. (OK, this could turn into a whole blog post :P.)

Oh, and btw, I did the cover art for my book. Thought that might interest you since you're an artist :). I've done elements of covers for other books by my publisher, too. If you go to http://www.splashdownbooks.com/ you can see the key I drew for The Duke's Handmaid, a set of shackles for Nor Iron Bars a Cage. There's also a sword on the *new* cover of The Muse, which isn't up on the site yet, but you can see the sword on the cover of the upcoming sequel (it will be on all three in the trilogy) at http://frederation.wordpress.com/2011/11/03/the-seer-writing-a-sequel/.

Well, now I'm really confused. Tried to buy the Kindle version and it said that it's not available to United States customers.

I am confuzzled. Maybe this ebooks thing is harder than I thought.

Ah, nevermind, turns out I just needed to install the kindle for PC software. Crisis averted. :-)

Whew--okay, had a moment of near panic. I *knew* other people had gotten it with no issues! :D Glad to hear. Hope you enjoy the read! Thanks so much!
