I'm on the Cover of a Book!

OK, so it's not me. Not even my name. Actually, it's my ARTWORK!

See the KEY? I drew that when Grace Bridges of SPLASHDOWN BOOKS appealed THE LOST GENRE GUILD for an artist to draw a key for a book cover. It piqued my interest, and I gave it a shot. Minutes after sending her the image, I got an email with "Hey, awesome key!" And pretty soon, I was on my way to stardom....

OK, so not so much stardom. But I am INFINITELY HAPPY that she chose my drawing. And even more happy that the author, Caprice Hokstad, loved the drawing as well. You can read her comments on the SPLASHDOWN BOOKS blog. (I'm pretty sure I blushed the first time I read the post. And the second, and the third...)

I am now DYING to read Caprice's book, The Duke's Handmaid. Check out the first chapter on Caprice's site.

Congratulations. That is a great looking key. I assume a key is important to the story. Are you cited as a contributor to the cover art or compensated in some way?

Yes to all counts, Jeff: a key is crucial to the story, I am supposed to be listed in the book as contributor to the cover art, and I did get paid. My first real, professional sale :).

Kat ~ this is magnificent.
How fun!!
I love the key and your journey is sooo cool.
You are such a rock star LOL

Do you draw it digitally? Do you free hand and then take a picture?

I did a couple of things for the Phoenix Rattler Does your story have bite? contest. (I drew that snake) and I drew the marquee and tickets for Cinema Sound Off my monthly movie review with Lynn Rush.

I drew them. Took a picture with my camera phone and then photoshopped.

Just curious about your process.

How cool, KM--I didn't know you're an artist, too! You did the logo for the Phoenix Rattler contest? I'll have to go back and look at it again!

I drew it freehand--with charcoal pencil--and took a digital photo. My favorite medium is charcoal, but I do pencil and I've done some pastels.

Yay--more we have in common!!!
