Finally in print!

My very first article is finally in print! It's a personal essay, and it came out recently in Purpose, which is a Menonite Sunday school paper. I still haven't seen it myself--I guess it's taking a while for my copy to arrive. But, I know the article has been read by editor from another paper emailed me asking for reprint rights :).

Also, I will finally have a fiction piece published. Christian Fiction Online Magazine has accepted a short story of mine for their August issue. I am SO excited about this. I do love writing personal essays, and am incredibly thankful that I've had success in selling nearly every one I've written so far. But my passion still lies in fiction. My main goal is to have my novels published, and getting a short story published is definitely a step in the right direction there. I'll post the link to the story when the August issue of CFOM comes out. In the meantime, check out the April issue at

I got my copies of the article today. I'm so happy :).

Update again....I just noticed tonight that the copies are for the July issue. So if you get the Mennonite paper Purpose, look for me in July :).

Ha! I have a short story in this months issue of Writer's Digest so I've been playing around with it. If someone comes by, I take it out and clear my throat really loud and say "Heyyy. What's this? Or I'll cough real loud and plop it in front of them. Phony subtlety is always funny.

You can always leave comments on someone else's blog to spread the word, too...hee, hee :).

Writers Digest--very good! Guess I'll have to pop by B&N and check out the issue. (Yeah, I don't have a subscription--bad, bad writer!)

I'm hoping to get some more short stories published. I've recently been struck with inspiration towards shorts that relate to my books. The one I've just completed is a story from the childhood of an adult character. It should work as a stand-alone. I'm taking it to my critique group to get some feedback, then I'll probably be submitting it to fantasy mags.

Just to let my readers know--I checked out Dayle James Arceneaux's short story in the current Writer's Digest (the May/June issue with Stephen King and Jerry B. Jenkins on the cover) and it's quite a good read. He beat out over 700 writers for this spot in WD, and I'd say he deserved it :).
